I believe we have passed through the era where fear could contain us. More often, fear, especially these days, makes us rebel or succumb to a living shell. As they say, “First impression is the last impression”, a child usually remembers the first thing what they see which is the atmosphere of his house, behavior of his parents who are usually the first ones that reaches his soul. I am not a parent yet but now when I have stepped into my adulthood, when challenges of adulthood blaze on me, when life throws lemons at me, I have realized how parenting helped me be calm at the helm of adversity, keep patience when things go wrong and work harder every time I fail rather than quitting because it didn’t happen at the first shot.

I came across this term, “Buddy Parenting” which got me ponder over past, ponder over discussions I’ve had with my friends, ponder over my friends whom I have motivated and pondered over those incidents when I was being motivated. I think for every person, their first set of friends, first source of inspiration is their parents which would also include their siblings. Maximum time of our growing up is shared with them and we, humans, tend to absorb the maximum out of our surroundings. As we grow up, the time spent at home goes reducing with increase in school hours, tuition hours and playing hours. Now, we have technologies which reduce our family time to as much time as take to have shower. While we get entangled in this new phase, the ones who become close to us is our friends. That’s when parenting gets tested. The tender child, who is just developing maturity, has all its trust put on the person with whom he spends his life with. He would start believing what his peers do and debate/discard all that he learnt from his parents. Conflict of roles renders a child to believe that parents, just like any other elder human, is only to respect but not trust. Trust gets associated to friends and you start sharing every personal aspect of your life with them, who are as less matured as you.

This is the time Buddy Parenting becomes important. The very fact of becoming a buddy while the child grows makes him believe/consider you as friend even when he starts making new ones. The trust and bond that he shares with new friends would be of the same nature he shares with you. The parent will still be a go-to friend and he would share everything happening in his life. As the child grows, the influences, the hormones, the understanding and the misunderstanding keeps expanding. Parents often miss out on the date and find their child on a wrong path which leads to scolding/grounding and eventual loss of trust. The child starts hiding and lying and there goes everything in toss. Buddy Parenting is when the parents would be able to correct at the right time.

Today, it reminds me of the time when I wept after coming home after an embarrassing moment of being tongue tied in an elocution, my parents shared their embarrassing stories. Some were cooked up but at that time, it made me laugh and think that I was not alone. It reminds of the time when I did too well and started gloating that they would start discussing over dinner how someone had a big fall after such a giant success that indirectly got me to ground. I don’t think I was ever scolded but was always had them laughing at my follies or simply disapproving what I did, just as our friends always do. We don’t really have buddies shouting at us right? They always indulge in conversations. If I wouldn’t study, they would simply stay awake and work late night indirectly telling me the importance of finishing work on time. Every mistake of mine was countered by an indirect inspiration and not direct conversations about do’s and don’ts and then with them, I’d sit at night and finish my homework. As Robert Brault puts it, “As parents, we guide by our unspoken example. It is only when we’re talking to them that our kids aren’t listening.”

Fear Parenting was always a success in the olden age where a child had a limited access to his world. Today, where we are connected to even a person sitting in Alaska from Mumbai, the very fear gets obsolete. However, I don’t mean that there shouldn’t be any level of authority to be exercised. Parents need to balance the line so that the kid would still stay in control. There’s a difference between functional role and emotional role and one can’t be on a single side. Both the sides got to have proportions. I don’t call for a buddy buddy parenting. What I press on is responsible buddy parenting.

So rightly said, We bring technology to life for you – the tagline of Reliance Digital Store which has now opened at various places in the country giving a cut throat competition to famous Technology and Gadget Stores like Chroma, Vijay Sales, Soni Moni and Alfa. In the City of Mumbai itself, there are more than 14 stores spread out in every zone so as to give access to anyone who feels the thirst to quench itself with a new technology or replace with a better one.

Last Sunday I happen to visit one of the store at Infinity 2, also at the recommendation of Indiblogger.in,  with an intention at the back of my mind to purchase a new Nokia Lumia 720 accompanying a friend, Harsh Kundnani who apparently was looking out for a laptop to buy. Although we did not get a Goodie Bag as promised by Indiblogger but we did have a very useful, knowledgeable and a nice experience going there. Since I am asked about experience, I’d state it under few categories which I feel would be helpful for a layman:-

  • Store Location:-

Reliance Digital is located on the second floor of Infinity 2, a place which has amazing shops besides it along with a fabulous food court offering a lot of cuisines. It is not even difficult to reach Infinity 2 if you are travelling by any public transport as the traffic does not clog as much as it does near Infinity 1. If you are visiting this particular store, keep yourself free for few more hours as after hopping out of the store, you might want to hop in at different apparel stores or just relax at food court and pamper your stomach.

  • Store Ambience:-

The store is huge with Book Store and Music Store adjoining the last zone of the store. It has different sections for different categories of Gadgets but not different brands. The advantage which you will get from this is that whenever you are checking out a particular phone of a particular brand, you may not have to go to a different section for comparison between two phones or more of different brands. All the smartphones of the same price bracket are displayed with a working model together. You may use there, compare with different brand of phone kept besides it and get a proper information.

  • Store Hospitality:-

From the Manager of the store to the executives to sales persons to the guard who handles your bag and stands at the entry; you will find everyone with a smile which will make you feel good. They are courteous and gentle in their approach, the way they conversate and the way they put forth their helping hand when you seem in doubt. It is not difficult to find anyone being occupied as someone or the other will be right besides you, all ready to get bothered and get your doubts cleared. Even if they know you are not going to buy, it will not deter them to act pricey in front of you. They will behave the same way, they would do to a purchasing customer.

  • Store’s Information Hub:-

Every personnel that you will find in the store is aware of all the information that you may seek for the devices they look for. In case you happen to ask a wrong person; you won’t find him giving you a wrong information but you will definitely see him seeking the right person for you at earliest or get you engrossed in other things while he gets the appropriate help for you.

Also, they will provide you with a proper theses of the details of any gadget you need to know. This makes you sure that the staff at the store is well informed, well trained and well aware.

  • Store Collection:-

You will not only find phones worth 45k but also the ones worth 1k or less. Not only phones, but also Laptops, Cameras, PlayStations, Home and Kithcen Appliances and Home Theatres and all types of gadgets. This gives you a wide range of variety in different price to chose from. They accept all kinds of cards and that only makes you want to buy everything at that moment itself.

  • Overall Experience:-

Overall experience at Reliance Digital, Infinity 2 was amazing. I finally could find a proper differentiation between Nokia Lumia 720 and Nokia Lumia 820 which helped me in my purchase decision. I was very comfortable with the service that they provided and would definitely recommend this shop to be tried out before making any purchase. If not purchase, this store is definitely to give you a good rendezvous to the gadget or accessory you always yearned for.

The fate of your life is your choice and no one else gets a vote.

— Maulik Doshi

Winston Churchill had once said, “The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter.” – Democracy – Something which we always learnt as “Government of the people, for the people and by the people”. However, if we go through the statistics in India about voting, you will hardly see our Democracy sufficing the third condition – ‘by the people’, for if you see the percentage of voting turnover, it will put you to shame if you ever stuck to what you always had an image of yourself in your mind, ‘of a responsible citizen’.

We always get a national holiday when a day is to be decided for Vote. Whereas in some areas of India, goons will rule the poll booth and threaten people if they vote against their leader and in some areas where Gunda-Raj (Mafioso Rule) is not there, affluent – educated and those people who are mentally competent to select a better leader will go for vacations with family or party at home. These apparently are the sad state of affairs and it is not really the rulers who are at fault for being corrupt, it is the fault of citizens for being so irresponsible.

Past 10 years have been full of Scams – from Telgi’s Stamp Paper Scam to UP military land Scam, Wheat Scam to Adarsh Housing Scam, Commonwealth Scam to ISRO Scam, 2G Spectrum Scam to the current IPL Match Fixing Scandal Fiasco, we have always cursed the Government. When there were issues about MIG planes having outdated machinery to when 26/11 – the most horrendous terrorist attack on Financial Capital of Mumbai happened and Police force had no good quality bullet proof jackets or proper ammunition, to december, 2012 – Delhi Rape incident and Government’s evident inability to take action, what every citizen of India has done is – Either Crib about Government, walk and protest on roads with friends and flags and black bands and hoardings, write hate blog posts and give hate speeches and tweets and when in 2014, there shall come a time to Vote, people will again start planning a trip or a party. Everyone in this country will adore Tata Tea’s ‘Jaago re’ initiative but no one would stand up and get their Election Card processed.

What I mean to say is, this is what “WARNING SIGNS” are !! This could probably be the reason why Emma Goldman had once said, “If voting changed anything, they’d make it illegal.” It is a situation where your body is not functioning well and you are terribly unwell. You will crib about it, cry in pain, won’t sleep in distress but won’t go to the Doctor. Why don’t we vote? Why do we ignore that each scam, each inability of Government, each unattended issue and each trouble that is faced by Citizen of India is a result of our laziness? Our inability of not doing proper research before voting? our problem of not going to Vote and let the goons dominate the unprivileged sections to vote in their favour only to extend their rule and their rights to trouble every good citizen?

One of the flyers during US presidential elections read, “If you don’t vote, you can’t complain – Get Out, Go Vote, Be Heard !!”

Take notice of these warning signs, you mister and Vote if you are above 18 years of age after thorough research and buy yourself an effective leader. Effective and nice leader is no myth or fiction, you have seen great leaders in world. The problem with India is INDIANS themselves. Some of the top reasons on why should you vote if above texts did not convince you:-

  • Voting is a way to speak your mind and let your voice be heard! Your vote is your voice. When we vote, we are actually telling elected officials and lawmakers how we feel about education, public safety, social security, health care, and other important issues.
  • One voice, one vote really does count! Remember: there is power in numbers, and when we vote and get our family members to
vote, we can truly make a difference. If you don’t vote for what you believe in, others will and you may not like the outcome.
  • Our children are depending on us to represent their voices too! Because our children can’t vote, we have to do it for them. That’s how we make our concerns about schools, safety, housing, and other issues heard. When we vote, we are looking out for our kids, and their futures.
  • Voting changes communities! Do you ever wonder why one neighborhood gets passed over for things it needs, while another seems to get it all? One big reason is voting. When we vote, we can get results that we can actually see.
  • Vote to effect change! It was through elections that we voted in officials who were champions for civil rights. Voting is our chance to make a difference in our own lives and within the world.
  • Believe it or not, voting is a way of honoring our history! As long as our country has existed, there have been people who didn’t  want us to vote. There were several freedom fighters that stood up for the right to vote. Well, those times may seem ancient, but there are still people today who don’t want us to vote. It’s now our turn to stand up and vote to preserve the honor of those who went before us.
  • Last but not least, because it gives you credibility! Often times, we voice our concerns to elected officials, but if we aren’t voting, our concerns may not matter at all to them. Voting can actually give you the credibility to make your concerns a top priority for legislators.

So the moral of the story is … GO VOTE for INDIA GENERAL ELECTIONS, 2014

My Healthy Speak Blog

“It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.”
                                                             ― Jiddu Krishnamurti

In one of the incidents narrated by my father, he told me about his distant cousin whose both the Kidneys had failed. When he was taken for operation, he saw all the dissecting instruments kept on the table of the Operation Theatre. Looking at the sharp objects and so many instruments just prior to operation, he developed a high fear in fright and Doctors had to abandon operation for that. In a week, he died as operation couldn’t be conducted because of his fever not receding down at any cost.

Recently, when my father was operated for a blockage in one of the biggest hospitals of Mumbai after a failed operation in an average hospital. He gave me a distinction between both the hospitals and their healthcare. While the previous Hospital had a decent Operation Theatre, in spite of heavy charges, they also had Cockroaches roaming inside his twin sharing patient room. He told me how a medicine was prescribed to him and when his body did not accept it for Diabetes or other problems, they checked then and changed and again a new dost started causing him extreme heat in body and aches in joints.

In the new hospital, where a huge surgery was performed for he was told that the previous hospital just relied on Sonography and operated whereas such blocks require many other tests like Uroflowmetry, RGU X-Ray, etc, he was so mesmerized with Operation Theatre. He did not even see a single instrument in his entire 5 hour operation out of which 4 hours he was sedated with Anesthesia. He told me about his first day, when junior doctors came, took a sample of his blood and tested in Test-Tubes. When my dad asked him about what they were doing, they said, they are testing if a particular medicine is allergic to you or not. He was so impressed. He just knew by then that he is going to be fit and fine soon. The rooms were clean, Sanitizers were provided to him, he surely had a luxurious stay at almost the same cost of previous hospital. Today, after 5-6 months of misery, he is fine and ready to resume his routine.

This is what Modern Health Care is all about. How it gives hope to a certain patient who is already wary of his own disease, pains and fears. Modern Healthcare touches life surely as they not only care about a patient’s well being in medical operation terms but also at aesthetic and comfort levels. In the first story, the poor guy died our of fear rising from dissection instruments, whereas when my Dad was admitted in a better hospital, he saw none of the instruments till the day of his discharge when he was handed over the bill of Operation Theatre which consisted a list of instruments used. Where one of the hospital, though average, but renowned with decent interiors had Cockroaches moving in the room, in the next hospital, not even a fly was visible anywhere. Where in first hospital he was told what issues he had, he wasn’t exactly explained the problem and only the tests whose technology was available within Hospital Premises were considered, whereas in the next hospital, he was asked to go elsewhere and get the tests done too, along with Doctors explaining him through Audio Visual, Drawings and Models as to what problems he had and what causes it. He was shocked when he consulted Doctor of this hospital because he had no clear picture of what problem exactly was when he was in previous hospital. The Doctors also conducted different surgeries giving him more pain and injected him different medicines to finally come to the one which suited him while the next hospital only injected him with apt medicine after thorough research using his blood samples.

The Charges were almost same for both the hospitals, whereas one hospital escalated charges by trying new medicines every now and then for their previous try went in vain, I am not even talking about agony what my dad felt at such an irresponsible practice which could have endangered his life, also because of the many days that he had to stay there as recovery took time. Charges were more for the effective, successful operation in the next hospital, but did not escalate unnecessarily as medicines were apt, and also the stay was brief.

At present when, everyday is challenged with a new deformity or disease, Modern HealthCare is very important to adapt, for it not only enhances internal health but also boosts overall health of a patient.
